Welcome to Season 2006 at SCPLOA. This is going to be a very interesting time for all of us at Swains and I think it will be the year that will be remembered as the year of the water. The vote for going forward with the water system as agreed to between SCPLOA and the KCWCD was overwhelmingly approved with the final tally being 34 against, and 421 in favor. The project is scheduled to begin June 1st and be completed by November 2006. Of course there are many factors that may impact this, weather, construction supplies etc. and we need to have patience and understand that things change. The engineers have told us that they will supply us with their construction schedules to let our members know when they will be in the various areas of Swains. This should help in planning trips to your cabin |

and inform you of what will be going on in your area when you are here. I have been told that there will be no trenches left open at the end of any construction day, so your ability to access your property should not be greatly limited. We will provide this information on our web site: http://swainscreekpines.com/ or a link to the KCWCD will be posted.
The dumpsters have been ordered off of the Forest Service land next to Highway 14 and will have to be relocated on association property in Swains. We are in the process of deciding exactly where they will go and hope this to be only a one or two year situation before they can be moved out of Swains and placed on a yet to be determined site. I am sure that the decision of where these dumpsters will be located will be an unpopular one to some members, |

however we can only put them in a few locations and have been told that they will be fenced in and/or netted to prevent wind blown trash as much as feasible and to make them as palatable as possible.
Once again, please read the section in this newsletter that is requesting volunteers for Labor Day and take it to heart. We REALLY need your help! On this subject, why not get involved with your fellow members of Swains and participate in the Pot Luck dinners that are already scheduled (check this newsletter for dates). They are a wonderful way to meet your neighbors and have a great time, as well as an excellent meal.
See you on the mountain. Alan, Chairman |

Where are the dumpsters? Dale Flanagan, of the Forest Service, has determined that the dumpsters will not be placed near Highway 14 anymore, due to the scenic byway designation. Dumpsters are currently available at Highway 14 and 89 (Todd's junction) at the State Yard (across from the convenience store). Take Highway 14 east (six miles) to Highway 89. This temporary solution will be available pending the designation of a place in Swains Creek Pines where six to ten dumpsters could be placed. We have a commitment for pick-up seven days per week this year. |
